What is acupuncture?
Our acupuncturists can help to tap into your body’s natural pain relief mechanisms, gently allowing your body to begin the process of healing. Entirely drug-free, acupuncture is a safe and effective way to alleviate discomfort.
Acupuncture is a technique where practitioners stimulate certain parts of the body to treat pain or disease – commonly through methods like inserting needles into the skin, electrical stimulation or application of heat, light or pressure.
It derives from traditional Chinese medicine, which states that there are patterns of energy flow throughout the body that are essential for good health. It is believed that imbalance in this flow can cause pain or illness, and this can be corrected through stimulating the specific parts of your body where the energy flows.
Acupuncture is a highly complimentary treatment to chiropractic as it focuses on the same system of stimulating certain parts of the body that relate to the spine and nervous system to correct overall health issues. Many of the acupuncture points from traditional Chinese medicine correspond exactly to the “chart of spinal subluxations” (joint displacements) used in chiropractic treatments, meaning it can be used in parallel with chiropractic and even enhance the overall treatment results.
Through adjusting and rebalancing your energy flow, acupuncture can also work to loosen tightened muscles, repair injuries and improve circulation. It is a completely safe method of treatment that is totally customised to each individual patient’s body and condition.
Who is Acupuncture for?
Acupuncture has been used to treat a wide variety of health problems, including but not limited to:
- Aches and pains throughout the body (i.e. back, legs, neck and arms)
- Chronic pain from conditions like osteoarthritis or fibromyalgia
- Recurring headaches and migraines
- Rehabilitation from injury, strokes or surgery
- Menstrual cramps
- Digestive problems
- Respiratory diseases, including colds, bronchitis and asthma
Every individual’s needs are different and we completely understand that one treatment does not fit all. At Vital Health, we’re always happy to discuss with you whether acupuncture would be a suitable and effective treatment for your specific problems – whether used alone or alongside our other chiropractic methods.
